A Foodie's Recap of City Island, Bronx

City Island is a gem located beyond Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx. Every day during the summer, City Island is serving up amazing seafood.  And one of my favorite things to eat is seafood, so my husband and I decided to go on a City Island crawl. Here is the recap of the night and the food we ate, and a few tips to keep in mind if you plan to visit!

First Stop Jonny’s Reef

Jonny's Reef is one of the island's best places for fried shrimp. We got fries and cole slaw on the side with our shrimp dish, and it was well seasoned, hot, and crispy! I also ordered oysters that were fresh and delicious, according to my husband. As my drink, I had virgin pina colada which was refreshing. The drinks at this spot are also affordable compared to other places. For example, a beer here costs $3 whereas at other places that same beer could cost you $8-$10 bucks. You also have a nice view of the water from this spot since Jonny's Reef is all the way down at the end of the strip.

Seafood City

Our next stop on the city Island crawl was Seafood City! This place is spacious and great for the whole family. They also have arcade games which are great for kids. They have an extensive selection of seafood, as well as barbecue ribs, steak, fried chicken, and pizza! We of course ordered more seafood and went with the Cajun salmon dish which was delicious. For drinks, we kept it simple and shared a strawberry daiquiri and water.

Lobster House

Lastly, we went to Lobster House, which I can say it’s now my go-to spot! This restaurant is pricier than the previous two spots we'd gone to, but the food was well worth it. We ordered penne vodka which was the best I’ve had, the paella was massive and very tasty! The surf and turf is a 22oz porterhouse with a huge broiled lobster tail! Everything cooked to perfection... the staff was all very attentive and friendly, making for a great experience!

Quick Tips

Most places have parking, but, they fill up, especially on weekends. Most of these self-served dining places, like Jonny’s Reef and Seafood City, are cash only. If you forget this, no worries they have ATM machines everywhere.
